National Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month Outreach Activity

As part of its annual recognition of National Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month, the City will host a community outreach activity to encourage people to be more aware of sexual assault, to promote a message of consent with its “Only Yes Means Yes” public awareness campaign and to distribute drink-spiking test strips.

The outreach activity will be part of the 2nd Annual Safer WeHo's Sunday Funday Resource Pop-Up. Participants will include members of the West Hollywood City Council; Security Ambassadors; LA LGBT Center’s WeHo Life and Survivor’s; members of the City of West Hollywood’s Women’s Advisory Board, Public Safety Commission, other public officials as well as City staff members. Participants will pass out awareness and prevention materials outside various nightlife locations in the city. Members of the public are invited to stop by and pick up materials as well.

Drink-spiking test strips are designed to detect the possible presence of “date rape” drugs, such as GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate) or ketamine. Outreach staff from the WeHo Life program began test-strip distribution efforts in October 2022 to inform and educate community members and businesses that drink-spiking test strips are a tool for personal safety that can be used anywhere at any time.

First launched in 2016, the #onlyYes campaign is a public-awareness campaign to encourage people in the community to be more aware of sexual assault and to promote a message of consent.

About the Safer WeHo's Sunday Funday Resource Pop-Up:

The Safer WeHo Coalition is hosting its second annual Spring Resource Pop-Up from 12 pm – 3 pm. This pop-up will provide education on the risks of accidental overdose, raise awareness about prevention strategies, and equip attendees with harm reduction supplies and resources to help prevent overdose and save lives. At the same time, the pop-up will feature resources extended beyond substance use disorder prevention. Partners such as the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) will provide free, on-site HIV and STI testing, and we will also be featuring resources from the City of West Hollywood highlighting National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and the LA LGBT Center’s WeHo Life

Program and Survivor Services, reinforcing a more holistic approach to health and wellness.
