2026 Annual Tree Planting Event

The City of West Hollywood will host its 2026 Annual Tree Planting event on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Six (6) trees will be planted in a residential cul-de-sac location at 8700 Dorrington Avenue.

The tree species selected for this year’s celebration are the Western Redbud (Cercis occidentalis) and the Desert Willow (Chilopsis linearis 'Bubba'). Both are rounded in shape and are deciduous trees that will grow to a maximum height of 20’-25’ feet. The Western Redbud is native to California, Arizona, and Utah and is commonly found in riparian canyons, often sold as multi-trunked but trainable as a single- or multi-trunk tree for use as a flowering accent featuring showy purple blooms. It blooms best in full sun and, while drought tolerant, grows more vigorously with regular deep watering. The Desert Willow is native to Western North American. It is a flowering desert tree well-suited for riparian and native gardens and highly drought tolerant, requiring only occasional deep watering. Typically, multi-trunked or low branching, it blooms best in full sun and grows taller and less dense in partial shade. Its bark is smooth when young, becoming fissured with age. The flowers are showy and fragrant in lavender and purple colors.

West Hollywood community members are invited and encouraged to participate in this year’s annual tree planting event. Supervision, instruction, and tools and gloves will be provided. The event will start with a short “how-to” planting session, followed by a discussion on the benefits trees provide to our urban environment. Community members are encouraged to join!
