The City of West Hollywood has a longstanding tradition of commemorating Holocaust victims on Yom HaShoah, the internationally recognized Holocaust Remembrance Day. This solemn day honors the memory of approximately six million Jews and five million others who perished under Nazi Germany and its collaborators, as well as the courage of the Jewish resistance during that dark period in history.
West Hollywood is home to many Holocaust survivors who have shared their powerful stories of survival, resilience, and responsibility through interviews for the Shoah Foundation Archive. These testimonies serve to foster empathy, understanding, and respect while preserving an essential legacy for future generations.
The Yom HaShoah event is both a tribute and a call to action. It provides an opportunity to remember the victims, reflect on the Holocaust's devastating impact, and commit to preventing future genocides and atrocities. By educating younger generations about these events, we aim to keep the memory alive and strengthen our resolve to ensure that such tragedies are never repeated.
